Just Listen - Sarah Dessen

Expectations were shattered by this surprisingly thoughtful novel. A relatable protagonist, vivid characters, a few interesting subplots, and a light romance. Though my curiosity for Dessen's novels has been satisfied and I won't be seeking out others, that shouldn't stop anyone else.

The Boyfriend List: (15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver) (Ruby Oliver Quartet)

I started this book with high expectations, which quickly fell as I read. I had imagined an unfavorable review, even as I looked back on my reading, but in actually writing, I realized I liked this one a lot more than I had thought. The drawn-out footnotes and helpless character known as our main protagonist detract from enjoyment, but all in all, this one is really quite solid. High-school drama, kisses, rumors, and more, Lockhart writes of a high-school I left years ago, but can so easily recall with her words.

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)

A strong debut that brings a welcome change to an oversaturated genre. The almost horror-like twist is refreshing. Limited background information leads the reader astray and sometimes, off a cliff. Regardless, I eagerly await the sequel.

Hexed (Hexed, #1)

Hexed - Michelle Krys Read my full review at: The Book Bee

**2 stars**

A debut novel with a seriously annoying protagonist. Lacking on the magic, fantasy, or paranormal fronts, this novel reads more like a teen girl's diary of high school's ups and downs. Expanding the magic would have helped immensely. I really wanted to like this one, but several moments were too thin to hold this one together.

We Are the Goldens

I don't know what I really expected going into this, but I don't feel a whole lot coming out of it. There is a strong relationship between the sisters, yes, but it is muddled by endless descriptions and unnecessary subplots. A good, quick read if you're feeling the sibling love, but don't expect it to change your world.

Grave Mercy: His Fair Assassin, Book I (His Fair Assassin Trilogy)

Grave Mercy - Robin LaFevers Read my full review at The Book Bee

**2 Stars**

This wasn't a bad book. It just wasn't that good. If you've ever felt so incredibly neutral about something that it frustrates you, that describes how I feel. A great concept that was shakily executed. A romance built out of air. An assassin, who does everything but. The sequel focuses on another female assassin; maybe that one is better.

1.5 stars

At times I questioned why I continued to read this book. Poorly developed plot, no world-building, and a seriously bratty main character has turned me off. In reading up on the other books in the series, I am very confident in my choice to abandon the Song of the Lioness series.

The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1)

The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) - Rick Riordan Read my full review at:The Book Bee

Overall, I wasn’t impressed. I have read Riordan’s Percy Jackson series and the start of his Heroes of Olympus series, but this one really fell flat for me. Boring plot movement, annoying characters, and very little explanation of copious information given left a bad taste in my mouth. I will not be reading any more of the Kane Chronicles.
